Yesterday marked the start of a new month — and, for me, the culmination of six months of a lot of hustle and not always a lot of fulfillment.
Over the past six months, I’ve taken on a new role at work, hired my replacement, juggled PTO duties, managed Little League schedules, dugout responsibilities and hubby coaching, navigated back-to-school chaos, planned family vacations, and tried to keep up with everything else in between. Somewhere along the way, my self-care took a back seat. October was my first step back toward myself — a month focused on slowing down and prioritizing what matters most.

November 1 felt like the perfect reset. After a morning of softball, our family joined neighbors for an impromptu Halloween lunch (a great excuse to use up leftover decorations). My neighbor offered to watch the kids, and my husband and I came home and immediately crashed for an hour-long nap — bliss. Later, we joined another set of neighbors for a taco party. It was simple but exactly what we needed: time spent with the people who make our little corner of the world feel like home.
As we talked over tacos and laughter, some of the conversations hit close to home — frustrations about keeping up with the house, decluttering, exercising, and getting our health where we want it to be. By the end of the night, I felt that familiar spark: it was time for action.
Reflections
When I first started this blog, a mentor told me, “Make sure you have a what’s in it for me section.” In the training world, we call that the WIIFM — and it stuck with me. So this month, I’m showing you exactly what that looks like when you keep fulfillment at the forefront, even when life feels like quicksand.
One of my favorite phrases when I train, coach, or mentor is: “The models are easy — application is hard.” And it’s so true. I know the models. I follow some incredible people online. I have their books. I know how to exercise, eat well, declutter, and create routines. But when you’re passionate about your work, your kids, your community — it’s easy to get pulled in a dozen directions and lose your footing. This month is about finding it again.
The Journey Ahead
If there’s one thing I hope you take away from this series, it’s that you’re not alone. Whether you grab a piece here or tuck something away for later, I hope you find encouragement — and maybe a few reminders to give yourself grace along the way.
I’ll be sharing daily reflections here on the blog throughout November, but only weekly recaps will go out to email subscribers. Sign up here to follow along!
